Grown from carefully selected seedlings in Madeira Island, this golden Strelitzia reginae cultivar is significantly rarer than standard reginae varieties. It shares the same growth habits as the classic Bird of Paradise but produces unique yellow blooms.
This exceptional golden cultivar traces its roots to South Africa's Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden, where it was developed from just seven rare yellow-flowered specimens discovered in the wild. Originally named Kirstenbosch Gold, it was later renamed in honor of Nelson Mandela. Through decades of careful hand-pollination, botanists stabilized its vibrant golden-yellow blooms - a striking departure from the classic orange Strelitzia reginae.
