Planting:
When planting Proteas, tear the nursery bag without interfering with the substrate or root system.
Proteas should be planted in their final location and should never be transplanted. If you're unsure where to place your protea, consider planting it in a pot. Once you've determined the permanent location for the planting bed, cut the bottom of the pot and place it directly into the ground. Never interfere with the root system.
Type of planting bed:
If planting in the ground, create a small mound and plant on top of it. If the planting bed has a steep slope, this step may be disregarded.
If planting in pots, choose a deep pot with a minimum height of 50 centimeters and good irrigation holes. Place pine bark at the bottom and top of the pot.
In both cases, use a substrate mix suitable for the species and water generously immediately after planting.
Wind protection:
In windy areas, stake young Protea plants for support. Remove stakes once the plants are stabilized in the surrounding soil.
